SMOKE-OUT
Members of Hampshire’s licensing
trade recently gathered to mark the launch of ‘SmokeOut’,
a company that designs, manufactures and installs unique outdoor
structures specifically designed for smokers after the Government’s
ban comes into force next year.
SmokeOut’s hand-finished constructions are made from the renewable
resource of soft-wood, treated and guaranteed for 15 years. One example, ‘The
Smoke Inn’, has 3 x 2 metre waterproof roof which is curved
for both drainage and the shelter of customers. The roof, which can
be either translucent or felt, is supported by two sturdy posts at
either end of a two metre long, double-sided bar, perfectly positioned
to sit at or lean against. As with all of SmokeOut’s unique
designs, customers have the choice of a natural wood or paint finish.
Whilst being durable and permanent, SmokeOut structures have the
flexibility to stand alone, be used as units to create a larger shelter
or be customized to meet building regulations for the outdoor spaces
of any licensed premises.

Pub Bosses, Cover Your Losses
Next summer smoking will be banned in
all public places, and as the old saying goes ‘if you fail
to plan you plan to fail’ so don’t wait for MP’s
to pull their finger out. Think about your customer’s needs
and ensure your pub has sufficient outdoor shelter.
The ban needn’t signal doom, provided it’s prepared for
in the right way. Long term smokers probably won’t be going
cold turkey; they’ll just be smoking outside instead of in
- so use every inch of outdoor space available and make sure garden
dwellers are shielded from the elements.
Wooden shelters blend most naturally with outside space, providing
a rustic, traditional feel to aid relaxation. However, high maintenance
varieties just aren’t practical so ensure that any timber is
pressure treated to prevent decay and infestation.
